I have field tested this hatchet and have been impressed with its performance and comfort for such a light weight. The 1/4" thick carbon steel head has a short tang molded into the handle and is plenty strong for such a light axe. The carbon steel holds a excellent edge and is scandi ground with a small secondary bevel for strength. The design of the handle feels very secure near the knob for full power swings and also makes it very comfortable to choke up on the axe for skinning, butchering or feather sticks. Because of the light weight and scandi bevel this also makes a great wood carving tool for roughing out blanks or canoe paddles.
