I'm so grateful that Ben's Backwoods made this hard-to-find classic available. If you have any inclination of winter trekking, or even extending your knowledge of winter hiking in cold climates, this book is a must-have. The Conovers are great writers and share anecdotes from their extensive travels in Maine, Quebec, and Labrador. These make their technical discussions of gear enjoyable, and on top of that there are helpful appendices of gear patterns, suppliers, and books.
Incredibly well-researched and well-done. They have a definite perspective, but I've found that trying it "their" way (which is based on native traditions and generations of bush travel) has enriched and changed my approach for the better.
