The Cold Steel shovel is very sharp when you get it. Unfortunately a sheath does not come with it. To avoid any mishaps I would highly recommend getting a sheath. It does a sufficient job of protecting from encounters with the sharp edges on the shovel. A must have item. There are plenty of higher quality third party sheaths to choose from but for the price difference this works just fine.
